REPRESENTATION AND MEMBERSHIP IN MLAD
Each of Michigan's 28 community colleges has one person identified as a representative member. S/he must be an administrator at her/his institution. Any other administrator or faculty person from one of these colleges can be an associate member. Representative and associate members are welcome to attend any MLAD meeting or function.
VOTING PRIVILEGES
Representative members and officers have voting privileges.
EXECUTIBE BOARD
The executive board consists of an elected president, vice president, immediate past president, secretary/treasurer, and one at-large representative. Members of the executive board are elected for two-year terms to each of their offices except the president and past-president. At the end of the president’s two-year term, s/he becomes the immediate past president. At the end of the vice president’s two-year term, s/he becomes president.
Only representative MLAD members are eligible to serve on the executive board and are eligible to vote in the election of the executive board. The executive board will conduct an annual e-mail election during the summer. The vice president and secretary/treasurer will be elected for two-year terms in even numbered years, and the at-large-representative will be elected for a two-year term in odd numbered years. When establishing a slate for an election, every effort will be made to balance the offices between large and small schools and between geographic locations in the state. (See page 2 for “Roles and Responsibilities of MLAD Officers.”)
TREASURY
MLAD will collect yearly dues from each of the 28 institutions during the summer of each year. Colleges will pay $100 per year. Notification will be done in June.
MEETINGS
MLAD will typically meet five (5) times a year and meeting sites will be rotated among interested colleges.
Regular MLAD meetings will usually be held on a Friday and will be scheduled so that many participants will be able to drive in for the day. For such meetings, the executive board will meet, as needed, the Thursday afternoon before the general meeting.
ANNUAL LAND (Liberal Arts Network for Development) CONFERENCE
MLAD will provide support to the annual LAND Conference. This includes encouraging members and faculty at MLAD colleges to give presentations at the annual LAND Conference. MLAD will also name a representative to serve on the LAND Conference planning committee.
